Finley Friday: Surfer Dog…
Since living back here at the beach we have gone to play in the sand and get our toes wet quiet a bit. But he’s a little bit much for me to handle in terms of actually taking him swimming. So a few weekends ago Albie and I packed up the car and headed down to the dog friendly beach to let him cool off and burn some energy.
Albie took his body board out into the water with us and immediately, without any coaching Finley attempted to jump onto it. To the surf class next to us I’m sure it looked like he was just attacking the board, but within a few minutes he had his paws on it and then eventually his whole little body.
He doesn’t stand up and he doesn’t actually ride a wave but the longer we were out the more we were out there he understood to get on the board and balance. He’s a little heavy and isn’t a great floater but he seemed to like it either way.
Sometimes a wave would come and he’d jump off. Or if I started to swim away just to play int he waves my self, he’d get very concerned and try to come after me. Then we’d pick him up and put him back on the board.
Eventually we ended up playing in the shore break where Finley had much smaller waves and could touch the bottom at all times. We played with board there and he even got to the point of jumping on the board if it started to float away.
Finley is not a world champion surfer (yet) but as his Fur-Mama, I am still pleased as peaches that his new hobby is so darn cute. And I think he is too:
To celebrate we went to eat at my favorite hot dog place ever, Trolley Stop, where we let Finley have part of one of their famous “Surfer Dogs”:
