Under Contract…

It’s official! We’re under contract to build our new home!!

This is the style we'll build, this is not our actual house.

This house was one of the first that we looked at and it never left our list of possibilities. The house is in a new neighborhood on the beach and when we went to look we actually wanted one of the inventory homes that was already built (The actual house pictured above actually.) But it sold out from under us.

We moved on and offered on the house we lost during the negotiations and then kept looking after that one too. But we couldn’t get this house and area out of our heads. With the rates and market the way they are now when would we be able to get a beach home again? This is the town where Albie grew  up, we’d be 7 blocks back from the ocean, it’s got an open floor plan, it’s under warranty and brand spankin’ new what’s not to love?

So we went back and walked through it again. We took our Moms through it. I took my Dad by it. We still loved it so we talked about building on our own little lot two down from this one.

We have the time. We NEED the time. We could be in by the Summer. Time to write the offer…

Then we started the negotiations. Two weeks worth… back and forth. Us walking away. Them coming back. Us making allowances, them giving us more then they wanted but not quite all that we wanted. Then we just still couldn’t accept, for whatever reason we still needed the weekend to think on it. Then We needed Monday. Then we accepted.

We’ve been homeowners. We know the drill. We know you’re signing your self up for almost 1/2 a million in debt that wont be paid off until we’re in our 50′s. But something about this time was a bit scarier. No, Albie does not have a job here in town yet and yes it’s something that is on our mind every.single.day. We have thought this through and it feels good.

The reality is that we have time: We can keep saving, keep living cheaper then we did in college and keep looking for a job for him. But at least we have this little gem being built in the background, just for us.
