Sleepy Finley & Heart Shaped Pancakes…

October 21, 2009

Monday morning we landed back in Raleigh around 9 am after having Finley at his favorite kennel, Pupsi, all weekend and immediately took him to the vet, Preston Animal Hospital, where he scheduled to have a full exam and all of his boosters.

Our vet is super great and the facilities are clean and the people are so nice – but I am sick of hearing that he is overweight!!

We have cut his food drastically, we don’t give treats and he goes on a quick walk every night.  His highest weight was up to about 70lbs but we have gotten him down to 57. Now the vet wants him to 52!! She wants us to be able to feel little ribs! How sad is that?

The worst part was the stink that he brought home from the kennel. Whew! He smelled so bad and had random wet patches of fur under his belly so we gave him a quick bath too. (He is thinking of boycotting vacations that he doesn’t go on with us because of the treatment he gets when we return.)

So needless to say, after all of his poking, prodding, washing and playing in the past few days he was so sleepy that he would barely lift his little head. So pitiful…

Sleeping on the floor

Sleeping on the floor because he was too wet to get on the couch

We even called him for dinner and this was the look we got:

barely lifting his little head up to see if we are feeding him.

Barely lifting his little head up to see if we are feeding him

But the night was not all pitiful sleepy Finley, Albie made me pancakes for dinner with heart shaped chocolate chips! Isn’t he the best?

Yumm :)

Yumm :)

poor puppy! you know, the vet says milo is overweight too, but he eats reduced fat food, gets few treats, no table food and takes a walk 3-4 times a week. i refuse to have my sweet boy so skinny that i can feel his ribs! as long as he’s happy and confident at his weight, i’m happy. he doesn’t mind a little extra lbs during the winter…it keeps him warm!

Boy dogs are the best :) Our next one, in the future, will probably be a little girl dog though.

No, no. I will always have boys from here on out. Just talking about my little guy makes me want to go home!
