Finley The Puppy…

May 6, 2010

Although Finley turned Three back in March, we actually got him in May (May 6th to be exact!) of 2007, so for no other reason then I love remembering the day the rescue group came into our unfurnished apartment and left us with another life to take care of before we had even really graduated from college I am posting pictures from the day we got our little guy:

Trying to get him to come inside on his new leash, he was not a fan.

The back story on Finley is that we adopted him from Pawfect Match Rescue. We were told he was a Rottweiler/ German Shepard and that he was found in a lake in Whiteville, NC with hooks in his mouth and paw. At the particular facility where he was rescued, it would have been cheaper to put him down rather than put him to sleep to take the hooks out. Lucky for us, someone paid the fee and got him to our area where we saw him on the internet.

We had been looking at puppies for months and kept getting turned down because of our inexperience, age and simply by the fact that we both were looking for jobs after graduation.  Lucky for us, Pawfect liked our application enough to come do a “Home Check” and from there left him with us that day! We were so sure they would need to “think about it” that we didn’t have a crate, food or anything other than a food bowl, a bed and some toys. After them asking us “So what do you think” and me crying like crazy because I couldn’t believe they liked us enough to let us keep him, we took our first of many car trips to Petsmart and got him outfitted with the finest crate and leash and then bought him the nicest organic dog food we could (not) afford.

We had a lot to learn, and we had to alternate who out with him every 3 hours, we set ground rules, watched Dog Whisperer and just generally watched him be a puppy.

Moving forward about 2 weeks, he was fully attached to our hips! We were beyond in love with him and  I am pretty sure it’s because he was so damn cute!

Cuddling right up next to the couch since he wasn't allowed on the furniture. Oh how the times have changed!

Our first Family Picture

Taking him to the stadium he was named after for the first time!

His first beach trip- not so sure about the water...

My All time favorite picture of him. So sweet!

So needless to say, when I tell people he is my fur kid, I am not lying. He’s the best and we are so lucky to have him!

What a cutie! It’s fun looking back at pictures of our ‘fur kid’ and seeing how little and innocent they were as puppies (at least in pictures, around the house was a different story).

Random, I think we have the same green couch in our family room :-)
