Finley Friday: Ready for Football…

August 27, 2010

Tomorrow marks the beginning of our one week countdown before our team’s season opener and while lots of people are cleaning off their grills and coordinating outfits, Finley is silently dreading the loss of his parents.

Finley was named after our Football stadium: Carter-Finley. We took him to visit his name sake right when he was three months old so these pictures are from June of 2007. He still really had no idea what “Football Season” would mean to him and how much alone time he would be getting.

Most of Finley’s experiences with Football are long days in the crate while his Mom works and his Dad tailgates. On days when Albie is home from the game well before I am I tend to get hilarious pictures of what we call “Serious Dog”:

This particular “Serious Dog” face was after we beat our rivals for the second time in a row (now we’re up to three in a row but who’s counting??)  and Finley’s Dad was in a “fun” state of mind when he got home, while I was still at work wrapping things up. Apparently Finley was super concerned so I got this picture texted to me. It’s one our favorites of him ever.

Sometimes I feel so sad for him because we can’t justify with him “Sorry Bud, Mom & Dad are in really bad moods because we lost today.” or “Ok Finley we know you’ve been by your self everyday all week and you are bored but We have to leave now for the whole day again.”

So our season starts next Saturday and Finley will go back to missing his parents most Saturdays and two Thursdays throughout this fall. I would feel bad for him but he always seems to be int he right spot when we are loading and unloading tailgating food so he isn’t too deprived!

If you ever need someone to check on Finley during game days, let us know! I will be stuck at home doing homework most weekends probably :(

Aw… I always feel guilty when Sadie is home alone (and probably spend way too much on doggie daycare as a result). Personally I think that dogs should just be allowed to go everywhere — the office, tailgates, whatever! The puppy photo of Finlay is a real heart-melter!
