Money vs. Value…
When I spend money on something I expect to get my value out of it.
Here is my issue: When I spend my money on something I like to have something to remember it by or I like to feel like I got it’s “worth”. With that said I love shopping at Target – not just the normal fun things but I like to buy my clothes from Target. All of my tanks, plain v neck t shirts and shorts come from Target… these are things that I am ok with replacing when they get small holes or when I stain them.
I also like to spend my money on nice things too. I like good jeans (not like crazy designer jeans like all my friends) but good jeans. I like my Jack Rodgers and I like nice bras. Things I wear a lot I like to have some quality, or some value if you will.
Speaking of bras… (nice lead in, no?) Today I had the pleasure of examining how much I value bras and the money I spend in them.
This past year I have “grown” if you catch my drift, and found my self in need of some new “support”. I went on line to Victoria’s Secret and spent entirely too much hard earned money on bras that I have had past experience with and have loved. I bought 3 in various colors and was thrilled when they arrived. Bras are one of those tings that I have no problem spending a good amount of money on since they are needed every single day, all day.
Fast forward to the game this Thursday night: I am checking people in, busy as a bee and my day is rolling along until SNAP. My bra strap broke. Not like came unhooked, but ripped from the band. Paper clips, binder clips and tying were no help until halftime when my sweet friend Becky supplied me with a safety pin.
Embarrassed, mad, and disappointed were all my thoughts and I talked a big game about taking these bras into Victoria’s Secret and getting new ones or my money back. And today I did just that. Except Victoria’s Secret wouldn’t budge. They didn’t even flinch. And why would they? Everyone has the same perceived “value” and “quality” that I did. but I don’t any more.
While I know that more expensive things don’t mean they will always have good value or quality I still can’t help being dissapointed.

That’s so ridiculous!! I’ve taken bras that were semi-worn out in there–just because I thought they didn’t hold their shape like they should. Maybe take it back in another day! You paid way too much money for something that you should get a lot wear out of!!
I have “grown” too in the past year, and feel your pain. I went through what I call “bra replacement” after I went into VS to get a new bra and was told I needed to go up 2 sizes :( No wonder I was having back pains! I have had VS bras alot in the past, but because of price and the fact that all the styles I liked in the past were no longer available, I only got 1 initially. Then browsing at Target I found a bra for $10 that I actually liked better! So I felt a little better about buying several. May want to check it out.
where can i get in on this “growing” thing???
I HATE spending money on bras because they never end up being worth it! They don’t last. They stretch and rip. It sucks because we have to wear them everyday. I want a bra that has enough padding so I don’t “nip out”, but doesn’t add a cup size to me! Let me know if you find it! :)
I would definately try again Katie, those bras cost too much for them to not budge (I know, I’ve kept ol’ Victoria in business for years). I have found one particular style at Target that I do like and consistently (read-loyally) replace-not because it’s worn out on it’s own, but due to the fact that it’s a nude color so you can only have those looking pretty for so long. It also frequently goes on sale for $9, who doesn’t love that?
