Home Is…

March 13, 2012

Now that the little dream beach house is a reality no more  it’s time to move on in the search process. But now I feel like there’s nothing new on the market, it’s spring, we’ve been doing this for just about a year and I’m getting antsy. I’m feeling complain-y rather than grateful and stressed about the PERFECT house.

Now that we aren’t building it’s kind of like we don’t want to wait anymore. We don’t want a 4 month wait time and we don’t want to have to settle on weird layouts and ugly cabinets. WAHHH. (Is this not the most annoying pitty party ever? – wait, don’t answer that.)

Some days I feel like I’m chugging along ok – we’re saving money, looking at houses, applying to jobs, etc. Others I feel entirely stuck and don’t see an end in sight. I miss having access to my things, all my clothes, and my freedom. I hate visiting my stuff in storage once a month or climbing mountains of boxes marked “FRAGILE” to get to a pair of running shoes that haven’t been worn but are needed. I hate missing my cups – random I know, but I love our cups. I loved registering for them, opening them at showers and for wedding gifts and using them.

I miss feeling productive and happy around the house. Not that I am project person at home, but I move things from point a to point b and make a fuss while doing that. I liked doing that. On a pretty day I totally would fling open the windows and get pollen all over the house without thinking about it. Since I’m not in my own home anymore I can’t do that.

There’s a lot of great things about living back at home right now, namely the price. (Thanks Mom!) But as anyone who has gone out, done the house and marriage thing only to return to the bedroom you did elementary school homework in knows – it ain’t easy.

I’m not even trying to complain, (mainly because my parents read the blog- everyone wave hello!) but after a year I’m feeling cramped, frustrated, and bummed.

Can’t I just find something similar to this yet?

While I wait for my cute southern cottage that has tons of space, an open floor plan, a 2 car garage in a good school district that happens to have updated bathrooms and a modern yet cozy kitchen to come on the market at a great asking price that’s well within my budget, I’ll be reminding my self of this every time Albie comes into town:

I love the house you are looking for too! That’s exactly what I need in my life! And also a pretty foyer, a mudroom, a laundry room, and a deck. That’s totally doable, right!?

I feel the same way about finding the “perfect” house. We want to live in a certain area of Dallas but all the homes in our price range are so old and ugly! Ugh! I want to find the perfect one!

I understand your frustration of just wanting something that you have in mind. I go through the same feelings. Mainly with the job front, but somewhat with houses too (we are renting and know we will be until we sell Jon’s house in MI). I feel for you!
